feedback on my book?

I clutched at the pillow, burying my face to muffle my scream, feeling the tension in my skin split open an extra three inches. Zorin quickly got up and moved to the front of the bed, kneeling so that he was level with my tormented expression. He gripped my hands firmly and held my gaze. I looked at his anxious face, noting the perspiration which had gathered upon his brow. My body struggled as I fought the ripping skin and shattering bone, crying out devastatingly from the overpowering pain. Zorin’s hands never left my clenched and sweaty grasp and his gaze never faltered.
There was a loud ringing in my ears and my vision blacked out, but not soon enough for me to feel the final splintering ache and a tremendous explosion of searing heat as my wings finally burst free and shriveled against my back dripping with blood and tattered skin. I fell back onto the bed, my head rolling to one side, eyes closed and chest heaving from exertion. Zorin was up immediately checking on the damage and doing what he could to stop the flow of blood and evaluate the extent of my injuries. I slowly shook my head to stop the drumming in my ears and to clear my vision. Zorin noticed and whispered calmly to me, his lips soft against my forehead “everything is ok Elaise. Do not be afraid.”

I got a male betta as a present for my birthday back in April and love him. But I was planning to get more fish and a ten gallon tank.
Bikram answers:

Answer….It depends. The best you can do is try a fish in there and see if he leaves it alone. Although betas tend to fight other betas, they can try to kill other fish as well. Sometimes they’ll leave other fish alone, it all depends on the particular beta and the fish you put in. Be prepared to take the new fish out and into another tank.

What classes would be good to take in college before going into Veterinary Medicine?

I was wondering what courses would be good to take in college. I want to become a wildlife veterinarian. I am in high school as of now.
Bikram answers:

The classes you need to take in college are very specific. These classes are set by the vet school and they aren’t just “good to take”, but required to be considered for acceptance. These include several classes in chemistry, physics and biology as well as general education classes like English, social sciences and math. The exact courses will be listed on any vet school website.
In high school you should take as many science classes as your school offers. Take the most challenging versions that you can. Challenging yourself in high school will benefit you in college. Your undergraduate school doesn’t really matter. Go to an in-state school that’s relatively inexpensive because vet school is very expensive and the last thing you want to do is add a bunch of undergrad debt on to your vet school debt.

No, you don’t need your JC results, they’re not relevant. If you were applying for a teaching job you would put down the results of your degree/HDip, but that’s all. For a TY placement, you can put in a brief summary of your results (5 honours, 4 pass etc) but what is probably more impressive is any work experience or informal babysitting experience that you may have done, or involvement in clubs/youth groups etc. They want to see that you are mature and can be trusted around children.

Pilates apparatus work, using the Reformer for instance, can be considered resistance training because one is moving the carriage back and forth against the resistance of the springs. However, Joe Pilates invented his system of exercise “to strength and lengthen the muscles”. You will build flexibility, improve coordination, breathing, and balance, and burn a moderate number of calories. I feel that Pilates combined with weightlifing and aerobic training provides an ideal triumvirate for almost anybody.

Bikram answers:

Step 1

Performing power yoga requires that you be physically fit. It is not as gentle as other yoga classes and the class is set at a brisk pace. You should have a good understanding of yoga before starting and also be familiar with the Sun Salutation.

Step 2

Warm up before practicing power yoga. No yoga should be done with a cold body. Do at least 10 minutes of cardio before performing power yoga. This will warm up your muscles and help you build strength and prevent injury.

Step 3

Work both the left and right side of your body in order to strengthen your entire body.

Step 4

Contact a local yoga instructor if you are looking to strengthen a particular part of your body. The instructor can explain which exercises focus on which part of the body.

Step 5

Practice yoga at least once a week in order to continue to build strength. Just like going to the gym, you will need to continue to practice yoga in order to see results.

Mystery Stomach Pain – please help!?

Ok…about 2 weeks ago i got a chest cold. Hacking up stuff, chest pain, sneezing, the whole bit. I took azithromycin for it and now i am about 85% better.
Now my stomach hurts. BAD. When I get up in the morning and go to strech, I get a SHARP, stabbing pain right below my belly button. Also to the left side. It usually goes away after about 2-3 minutes of sitting. It also hurts when I have my “first morning pee”, but oddly enough, the pain is in my vaginal canal. It does not hurt when I pee any other time throughout the day. I do not think this is appendicitis. I am having diarehha (bad spelling) and I feel really out of it. Whenever I go from sitting or laying now this pain almost disables me. Help! I live out in the middle of no where and we have no doctors available here. I have a history of UTI’s but nothing ever like this. I am also on the 3-month depo but have had no problems with it thus far.
Oh! And I should probably add that sometimes the pain is in my belly button too…I have checked my entire abdomen and crotch area for any hernias, bumps, etc. but found nothing. When the sharp pain isn’t present, my whole lower tummy feels a bit achey. This sucks.
…and I can eat just fine. I drink alot of water and poweraid too.

Bikram answers:

Several years ago, following a simple case of bronchitis, I had the exact same symptoms. The pain was horrendous after a few days. It seems that the antibiotic I was taking killed ALL the bacteria in my colon, not just the “bad” bacteria, but the “good” bacteria that is essential for digestion, etc. Within a few days, I was passing blood and was hospitalized. The pain was so bad the first night, when I went in, that I was just about hollering, and they had to give me morphine. I swear I thought I was dying. I was in the hospital for a week. The antibiotic had, in effect, caused a nasty case of colitis.

I’m not saying you’ll wind up in the hospital, but DON”T ignore this. Call or see your doctor right away. Since I had this problem, I’ve had recurring bouts of colitis, so the initial infection seems to have done some long-standing damage.

Don’t screw around with this–it could wind up being nasty. And even though you’re in the middle of nowhere, I’d get in the car or get a ride to the middle of somewhere to get looked at, right away.

Hope you feel better soon.

I took it again and it had went down to 154/111. What could this be?
Bikram answers:

When you throw up, your body tenses up and you are using a lot of your muscles. Heaving when you thow up, will cause the chest pains. Neck pains can be caused from straining you neck while vomiting, and your blood pressure rises because throwing up is a stressful situation. Even after 15 minutes, your body is still feeling the effects from vomiting.

Your doctor is right, if it is only that bad when you throw up, it is from vomiting.

Violent sneezes can cause damage in a few places, one of them being the ribs. You may have damaged connective tissue, or even may have broken a rib. It happens. Your symptoms do fit a cracked or broken rib, and you should probably check in with your doctor for an x-ray.

In the meantime, heat or heat alternating with ice over that part of your chest can help.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god – with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

            TUESDAY:

I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mil e. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It’s a whole new life for me.

            _______________________________

            WEDNESDAY:

The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.

My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other shit too.

Asshole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late – it took me that long to tie my shoes.

He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny bitch to find me.

Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine — which I sank.

If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.

Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.

The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

Need help for tourettes syndrome?

Okay. I’m at my limit. I can’t stand it anymore. I’ve had these problems since I was 8. I’m now 16. They’re getting worse. This isn’t your typical minor “Twitch and swear” tourettes. I don’t even have those. My tourettes change every few weeks. They vary from swinging my head, making animalistic sounds, gulping excessively, and more. The worst though, are the psychological ones. The ones in my head. I can’t say certain words. Can’t. I try to think them so hard, I cry. It really hurts. If I don’t do my tourettes (Whichever it is) then I get a tightness. I can’t breathe, my chest hurts, my vision wavers. But, it’s still getting worse. I’m only safe when I sleep. I gulp so much, I can’t breathe. I sit there, suffocating myself. I don’t know what to do. These ones in my head are…Well, literally. Driving me insane. Sometimes, it gets so bad, I’ll just go over and punch something. Anything. Cardboard box, wooden wall. Don’t care. No pain. Just the pain in my head, driving me on.

It’s horrible. Never ending. A nightmare everyday. I avoid people. I avoid family. I hide, suffering. Nobody listens, nobody understands. I can’t stop them, I can’t prevent them. It hurts alot, and as I had said, the onesi n my head are the worst. They’re leading me to extreme depression. The problems that they create are killing me. I don’t really think that I will be able to last any longer.

It is an absolutely severe case. The only doctor who had ever understood me had gone to another city. He told me to bear with it, and if it got worse, demand help. This was when I was 12. He had said that it would go away eventually. It’s not. It’s so bad, I just want to cry. Even now, my body is convulsing. I just want to know what to do. I don’t care what shit medication I have to take. The only relief is when I get myself so high, I don’t think. But it’s worse after that. And the depression makes it even harder.

I can’t focus on any tasks. Even now, my body is vibrating, the same way if you drink a few coffees. But I’m the one vibrating it. But if I stop, my muscles cramp, and they hurt. This is serious, I can’t last any longer. My head is a mess, and my body is beaten up due to the physical damage I do to it. The only relief would be suicide, but I never would. Too scary, too stupid, too easy to mess up. I just want to know what medication I can take. What drugs. Anything at all. Whatever you can recommend. Therapy won’t help, that doesn’t matter. I’ve been so lonely, haven’t had a single friend for years. I remember before I had these, or atleast had them so bad. Life was good. Now I just hide myself.

Please, show me what I can do. Tell me. I just want it to end god damnit. I’ll do literally anything. ANYTHING. Please.

Please.

confused about AF actually started or implantation (among other wierd happenings)?

First of all, Im kind of 50/50 about getting pregnant. Not trying but if it happen’s, my partner and I will be very happy. I am 29 y/o! I do like to drink my first morning cup of coffee and I also am a smoker (Quit smoking with my first born easily. how? when you find out your pregnant everything is not hard to give up when you are responsible for the healthy growth of your baby)

Ive tracked my cycle (33 days – my cycle is regular) OV would of occured between 04-02-10 _ 07-02-10. Im not reccording my temp at all or checking my cervix. I hope the calculations are correct!!

My concerns are.. at 6 dpo & 9 dpo,I notice brown spotting on underware (just those two times) I want to know why and what it is. It never happened before my period and the color is similar to when my preiod has ended.

Usual AF feelings, tender breasts, cramps started & severe headache at 9 dpo.

At 11 dpo, went to use the restroom and when I wipe, discovered pinkish orange discharge on tp.

Now 12 dpo – this morning woke up and checked, and found alil on my pantyliner. hours later, the bleeding is alil bit heavier, cramps (pinch on lower left side above pelvic area), tender breast (nipple area). Im pretty positve it is AF. For lunch I ate two home made eggrolls and felt alil queasy after eating them. My chest feels alil congested and I do have a sore throat (Im getting the common cold)

Im am not expected to start on 21-02-10! And usually I eat all kinds of foods before it arrives (sweet to salty, everything and anything) This month I didnt get a chance to desire the taste of foods. LOL I also get very sexual the day b4 I get the “Flow” but I havent had any desired whatsoever either. I get a really bad sharp pain (ONCE) b4 the expected visitor, this time. nothing!

With my first born I did experience implantation bleeding and it also came early (I remember this very cleary because it was right before my birthday and it was a huge downer because I wasn’t expecting it until after my bday and really, who wants to be menstrating on their BDAY! It didnt last very long, so I was very suspicious and grateful it did stop on bday.. LOL

I dont have any PG signs! With my first born also didnt have any til the morning sickness which started 7 weeks.

At 10 dpo I did work a 13 hour shift, was on my feet majority of the time. Could that possibly be why my “Flow” started.

I would go talk to a doctor but in the community I live in is very isolated. Up here in the north, the nurses handle everything and what they do, is open a book, read and tell you what “could” be wrong. It is only possible to see a real doctor if it’s a real emergency (very sad to say)

So instead of wasting a Doctor’s time Im am just looking for opinions, similar stories and the outcome of your experience.

Help please! I need some health advice!?

So mooonnthhss ago i had a UTI. As soon as this UTI hit me for some odd reason i had a decrease in libido and erection problems. I went to my urologist and the UTI is gone. Except i still have a lower libido and whenever i get an erection its usually weak and doesn’t fully engorge. I have had many Mamograms, catscans, blood tests, urine tests and cultures and hormone tests. My urologists says i am fine and that its psychological.

Since all of this began, i have started to become a hypochondriac about everything that goes on in my body. Recently i have been getting these random bumps and twitches around my body, i have shortness of breath, sometimes i have pain on my right and left side of my chest and i am tired enough to always be able to sleep, even after having coffee.. Sometimes i feel light headed.
I am 17 and weigh 210 pounds and am five foot 10. I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs.I have asthma.
Is anything wrong with me? I have seen my urologist about 4 times and he says i am good and i saw my General doctor and he said its probably acid reflux. I have an appointment with a cardiologist on june 10. Could this all be anxiety related? Am i so over worried that i am preventing myself from obtaining an erection? Sometimes i feel like i have less sensation in my penis then in the past.

Anyone have any idea whats going on?If anyone wants anymore info, hit up some of my older questions(i would really appreciate it). Should i be worried?
Don’t mean to be rude.

Bikram answers:

One common problem that happens is this. I have been there and done that. You have to figure out what it is first that is destroying your sex drive. If your on medication like birth control or anti-depressants that is something to think about and do research on. Other then that it could just be stress, maybe the kids, really anything that makes your life stressful can do this and lower the libido.

One thing I tried that seemed to work while I was doing it was exercising. I just felt sexier doing it which kind of boosted my libido. However it wasn’t the best solution for me. My friend told me about these herbal enhancers that are made from natural herbs and don’t cause any side effects besides having wild sex. She said it’s the female version of viagra. I had to find out.

I would always have a weak orgasm too (if I had one at all), which after trying this sex enhancer, it boosted them tremendously. I don’t get multiple orgasms but I’ve had plenty since being on these herbs. It’s seriously like the best vibrator ride you’ve ever experienced. These things make me horny all the time, some days I don’t even take them because the urge is just too strong.

Don’t try out single herbs because they don’t do it like the blend of herbs these scientists and researchers pick out. I’ve tried a couple of them by itself and they did crap. The stuff that I’m on is called Hersolution, at the time I saved money on it at herenhancement.com . Make sure you get the 3 month supply that way you fall under the guarantee/return policy if the herbs don’t work for you, you can return them with no questions ask. I bet they will work though and you won’t have any problems. Also if your on medication (birth control) of any sort, check out the gel because if your like me, you wouldn’t want to swallow any thing that might react with the medications your already on.

Well have a good day and hopefully you solved your problem.

What do you think of this?

I was half asleep in the silent house. In my sleep I could feel the tension and fear falling from the white walls of my room. I was awaken to the sound of people yelling downstairs and you could hear their voices becoming hoarse. Only minutes had went by but it felt like hours of torture as their voices continued to rise. I knew what was going on because just like all the nights before daddy came home drunk. But tonight was worse than any other night because his speech was so slurred you could barely understand what he was saying. I went quickly and quietly to my small hiding place my mommy told me to go to when daddy came home like this. As I was hiding in the toy chest stored in the back of my closet I had to go to the bathroom. I knew I could not get out or daddy would beat me until I bled as he often did mommy. As those thoughts ran through my mind I could hear the hushed begging falling slowly from my mommy’s lip. I was scared for her because once she started begging I knew the beating would soon follow. Her voice slowly filled with anguish and pain that echoed throughout the room. I could imagine the tears crawling down my mommy’s face, mirroring my own. I covered my ears in fright. I was trying to block out her screams, her fear, and the sound of blows being landed across her face one after the other. I could not hold the pee that had been slowly building inside me. So I peed onto my clothes. Then I recognized something different about tonight. Tonight my mommy went into hysterics and she was usually silent after the brutal beatings she receives. Then there were two ear splitting gun shots from downstairs and then silence. I thought my fate would soon be the same as mommy’s but I heard the loud bang of the door. I was alone and I knew daddy was never coming back for me. I did not want him to.
I was frozen with fear from head to toe and I could not move from my toy chest. Thoughts are racing through my mind at the speed of a rocket. I finally had enough courage to get out of the toy chest. I walked out to the dark hallway and begin to walk toward the stairs. I was so scared to walk down the stairs and face to face the dead body of my mommy down there. I could barely see the railing of the stairs. So I felt my along the rail and headed down the stairs. As I took each step it became difficult not to turn around and go back to the safety of my toy chest. But I got to the bottom and I turned on the living room light. I paused there for a second because I did not want to see what was behind me.
So I turned around because something inside me told me I had to look. But I was not expecting what was behind. Laying there in a pool of blood and with to gun shot wounds to the head was my daddy. He was lying there beside our coffee table. I tried to scream but my throat was just to dry. Many different feeling ran through my head, joy because daddy would never hurt me again. Sadness because even though I hated him he was still my father. The feeling the had me confused and crying was anger because mommy was the one who left me not daddy. I thought mommy loved me but I knew she would never come back. Right then I could think of nothing else except the hate I was feeling toward my mommy.
@ Talgal: Thank u and its just a story.

The story itself is good, just work on your grammar and you’ll be fine. Some criticism but I’ll be constructive. It should be either “I woke to the sound” or “I was awakened.” Also, is she half asleep or asleep? I don’t know what this means “fear falling from the white walls of my room.” Daddy and Mommy should be capitalized. This is wonky ‘hushed begging falling slowly from my mommy’s lip.’ It just seems like you’re trying too hard there.

It would be two gun shot wounds, not to. If she’s turning on the living room light and Daddy’s dead by the coffee table, why is she looking behind her? Feeling needs an s – feelings. The ending needs a little work. Why did Mommy leave without taking her daughter with her? You could just add some details there and you’ll be fine.

All in all a good read. Keep working on it!

Do you think I have diabetes?

So recently took a short trip to the ER because I pulled a muscle in my chest at work. When I went they took some blood. My Glucose level was 105. I had had some coffee and a Gatorade that morning so it wasn’t, as a another doctor said, a “fasting blood test” so my blood sugar being a bit high was supposedly “normal” if he’s to be believed. Around this same time I’d started feeling a slight tingly numbness in my hands accompanied by some pain in the wrist and forearm area. I first thought it was diabetes because that’s one of the symptoms. But everything pointed to an RSI injury. The fact that it started a few weeks after I threw away my old, more ergonomic mousepad for a cheaper pad with no wrist pad makes and that I’m on the computer a lot adds weight to that theory. I went to another doctor recently (the one I mentioned earlier) and said that was what it most likely was NOT diabetes as I really don’t exhibit any other symptoms:

    * being very thirsty (Not anymore than usual, about 4-5 drinks a day)
* frequent urination (Again, nothing unusual)
* weight loss (Nope)
* increased hunger (Nope)
* blurry vision (Been wearing glasses since I was 6)
* irritability (Always been kind of an irritable person)
* tingling or numbness in the hands or feet (The only real symptom I have)
* frequent skin, bladder or gum infections (Nope)
* wounds that don’t heal (Wounds heal fine so long as I don’t scratch them, which I have a bad habit of doing)
* extreme unexplained fatigue (Nope)

Now I’m having the same kind of tingly/numb sensation in my feet. It usually only happens when I’m sitting and being inactive (Like I am now). Rarely if ever happens whem I’m up and about like when I’m at work and running around. I keep telling myself its because when I’m not at work I’m pretty inactive and have bad posture (Right now the foot that’s kind of tingly/numb is crossed over my other leg), that I probably did the same thing to my feet that the doctor said I did to my arm, pinched a nerve. I’ve started swimming the past few days, exercising my legs, hoping that will help. (There’s also this bruise-like pain under my knee on one leg. It hurts like a bruise when I press on it but there’s no physical sign of a bruise. Don’t know if that’s related).

Regardless, I’m still constantly worrying about it. All the time. I just saw the doctor the other day and I’m already thinking about seeing ANOTHER doctor even though I already have two appointments this upcoming month.

So does anybody here think I may be diabetic or do you think I’m just being a hypochondriac?
@Noah Whalen: I did ask my doctor and he said I was fine. Not diabetic. But I’m having trouble believing him. Should I trust him? He’s not my regular doctor. I really don’t have a regular doctor, yet.
@mwhite25: I don’t have a bruise. I just have some kind of bruise-like pain on my leg but no bruise-like discoloring. I probably was just jumping to conclusions when I added that. I should have added that I live upstairs and trip on the stairs at least 3 times a week.

It’s good that you are aware of the symptoms of diabetes and that you have cross-checked against each one so methodically.

But you have forgotten the most important symptom of all.

The blood sugar level.

The definitive sign of diabetes, that trumps everything else, is high uncontrolled blood sugars.

It is as simple as that. And all you need to confirm diabetes diagnosis is repeated high uncontrolled blood sugars, above 140 mg/dl.

All the other ‘symptoms’ are just red herrings. If you are worried all you need to do is get your blood sugar tested. The blood glucose meter does not lie. It’s like a thermometer, you’d know for sure if you have a fever or not. Same thing with blood sugar levels.

You don’t even need to see a doctor. Just get blood sugar tested. Simple, fast (5 seconds) and puts your mind immediately at ease.

What doctor I should follow up with regarding my recent symptoms?

Besides my current problems, I am a healthy 32-year old female. Here’s goes the long story:

Three months ago I had food poisoning. During the day that I was recovering I pushed myself too hard and went about my activities without eating or drinking anything. This was a bad idea as I ended up blacking out while I was shopping. This is the first time I have ever fainted. For the next 10 days I felt completely fine.

One evening after work I was overcome with intense dizziness and a feeling like I was going to faint again. The feeling came over me in waves and lasted for about 20 minutes. During this “episode” my heart felt like it was going to pound out of my chest. I went to the ER to have things checked out. My EKG, blood work, and CT scan of my head all came back normal. The dr on call said I probably just had a post-vaso vagal syncope.

I have continued to have these episodes on and off for the past three months. I can always tell when they are coming on – it feels like it starts in my head and radiates throughout my body. I feel faint, dizzy, things take on a yellowish-hue, and my heart rate speeds up. The episodes happen at home and at work and last for just a few minutes. Afterwards I feel jittery as if I’ve had an entire pot of coffee. My face feels numb, too. At night I’ll often wake up and my heart feels like it’s racing out of control. Every day I feel unbalanced as I walk around. It’s not like the room is spinning; I just feel like my feet aren’t quite making a connection with the ground. I don’t have severe headaches but I do feel occasional pains in different parts of my head and pressure behind my eyes.

My dr put my on 10 mg Citalopram because he thinks what I’m experiencing is due to anxiety/panic attacks (I’ve never had either of those problems before). I stayed on it for a month but stopped it because it made my symptoms worse. I wore a heart monitor for a month and had a heart ultrasound, I’ve been tested for pheochromocytoma, had my thyroid checked, and had a head MRI last week. All tests have come back normal.

I had my daughter a year ago and stopped breast-feeding a month ago. I average about five hours of sleep at night. I’m hoping that what I’m going through is just related to my hormones being out of whack and lack of sleep…

I don’t know what dr I should go see next. I’m scared that the drs I have seen have missed something and that I may have from something serious (i.e., MS). Do I call a neurologist, an endocrinologist, or a cardiologist?

Any insight you can give is greatly appreciated! Thanks for your answers in advance.

Bikram answers:

The MRI is the best test for multiple sclerosis. Your description of your symptoms do not really fit into the clinical description of MS to begin with. Any demyelinating, neurological disease would have shown up on the MRI.

The CT scan, EKG, heart monitoring, thyroid test, blood work, heart ultrasound rule out the need for a cardiologist as well as the endocrinologist.

So while you are worrying about what the doctors missed, it is you who has missed the true diagnosis which is panic and anxiety. Your description fits both of these conditions. You need a psychiatrist and psychologist to deal with your panic attacks that you so deftly described. I am sure you stopped your citolopram without calling the doctor back and consulting him, which is also indicative of panic and anxiety. You stopped it because you are convinced you have a serious fatal disease. You are going to be fine provided you get some help for the diagnosis you have received.

what happens when you start smoking 8 weeks after bypass surgery?

My husband was told smoking after bypass surgery would kill him. He was supposed to have a 6 way bypass and the doctor could only do a quadruple, he could not by pass the other two veins they were to far gone. He is only 50 years old and the doctor was shocked at how bad his arteries were 1 completely blocked, 1 90% blocked and 2 about 80% blocked he went a year with angina and never said nothing until he was traveling for work in mexico and he had chest pains there, he made a doctors appt when he got home, 2 weeks later he flunked his stress test in 4 minutes. He was kept in the hospital until after the open heart surgery. He was told smoking again would kill him and we his family members were told that as well, we were also told he will live a comfortable life, but not be the same. He says he feels better, and it took him 50 years to get into that shape, he probably doesn’t have 50 left so if he wants to smoke he is going. Is this really as devasting as I think?
None of us want him smoking,,,we cannot control when he isn’t around either. It is a nasty addiction to have. He was hiding it from me to begin with so I thought me catching him smoking and reminding him about what the doctor said would stop him. It just made him stop hiding the smoking from everyone. I am his wife and personally I don’t know why he bothered to okay the surgery. I just want to know the facts cause I scared of wondering when it is going to happen, I hate what it is doing to me!

Usually those type of drinks make your heart beat fast and you get really hyper and energetic, but for me and my friend it didn’t do anything at all .. ( we’re in grade 8 and 13 years old ) oh and i bought the normal one, the bottle was black.. so it wasnt like a light one or anything. So why do you think it didnt effect us? And are energy drinks like Rockstar, Red bull, Monster..ect have calories and fat ?? if you‘re trying to lose weight or not eat any junk food, than are they okay to drink ??

Bikram answers:

This may be a simple problem. I know people say that caffeine doesn’t affect everyone the same. But with all of the sugar, caffeine, Taurine, B vitamins and other stimulants used in an energy drink it really seems unlikely that these not working is simply because just caffeine does not have the same effect on people.

Now if you are tired or dehydrated caffeine and energy drinks only do so much. There simply is no replacement for sleep. Stimulants only do so much for so long. Caffeine dehydrates us and when dehydrated we feel tired. This is worsened if you were dehydrated before.

It is good you split it up cause rockstars are bigger than regular energy drinks adn are actually 2 servings anyhow.

Next time start with water. It is a natural energizer itself. If you have an energy drink it is even more vital to have water to offset the caffeine. Hopefully you will have better results by having 2 glasses of water with the energy drink the next time.

120 heart rate after running is this normal in 7 yr. old girl?

My daughter was running in gym yesterday. The nurse called me and said she was short of breath and her chest was hurting when she breathed. Her heart rate at that point was 120 and regular. Everything else (bp, temp.) were normal. After resting, the heart rate was 112 and regular.

Is this a cause for concern. I thought maybe since she was running a lot, or should I take her to a doctor?

Coughing after running?

About 10 minutes into running (just started Cross Country today) my chest starts to hurt, and it’s hard to breath. I thought it was because I was out of shape, but it always happens to me when running. Then for a couple hours after our workouts, I have this horrid cough that lasts forever!!! It makes my chest hurt. Today it lasted for 6 hours! I get tired easier than most of the people do and it takes me awhile to recover after running. What’s the deal with this?

It’s asthma. You may just have sports enduced asthma which means it is asthma that only acts up when you excersise. Go to the doctor and get an inhauler. I have sports enduced asthma and I had to l learn the hard way as well. I take an inhauler before I go run but I still cough after. I also take a medicine at night that kinda acts as a second inhauler. Go talk to a doctor and he will help you out. My chest also hurts after running and it lasts a few hours. If you have asthma you will feel like a rope is raped around your lungs so they can’t expand and you will be wheezing. You will feel much better once you get an inhauler.

Tips for running long distance?

Bikram answers:

I don’t know exactly how far your race is, but I know that when I run, the first 2-3 miles are the hardest. Trying to get into a flow with the breathing and my stride. But after that, I feel so much better and more relaxed while I run…

The best thing I can tell you is to make sure you’re warming up properly, and since you’re a distance runner, that could be longer than you think… I breathe through my mouth naturally, but not everyone thinks that’s right. I don’t have any problem with it though. Just do what feels comfortable. Also, it won’t hurt to try to focus on your breathing. Taking longer deeper EVEN breaths instead of short rapid and uneven breaths. Eventually it will come natural and you won’t need to think anymore. Nausea could be cause by what you’re eating throughout the day and especially what you eat before you run. I know that if I’m planning to run more than 6 miles, I can’t eat more than maybe a piece of fruit or a couple whole grain crackers beforehand or I’ll be sick. I also cant eat immediately after my runs or it makes me sick. Try different things to find something that works for you as far as food. I just wouldn’t recommend eating too much for several hours beforehand… And Chest pain I’m not really qualified to comment on. It could be that you’re over exerting yourself, or it could be something more serious. I’d definitely see a doctor if it doesn’t stop.

Weird taste in my mouth after running?? what is it?

So I just started running since I haven’t in a long time and want to get in shape.
Anyway, after running yesterday and today there was a coppery, blood, metallic taste in my mouth. Is it because of how I was breathing or what because my chest hurt really bad but I’m guessing thats because I’m not use to running.
What exactly would this metallic taste come from?
Thanks!
well i did have a UTI that was about to turn into a kidney infection but that was suppose to be taken care of……hmmm..i’m only 20..i can’t be broken yet…

Bikram answers:

This is probably just a passing symptom, of unknown (idiopathic) cause; sometimes certain medications such as antibiotics, vitamin supplements and antidepressants can cause a coppery taste in the mouth.

But, if this continues, see your doctor and ask for a creatin-level check; this symptom could be related to a kidney disorder, particularly if this only seems to happen when you’re physically active.

A metallic taste in the mouth can sometimes indicate heart problems, so, again, if this continues, see your doctor.

Normal pulse after running for 15 year old?

Okay, so I’m not really sure how to word this but basically, I do a lot of running. Not outside or in any attempt to stay fit or anything. I just do it. It’s like an urge, a habit of mine I just can’t break.

For example, one of the most common times I run is after seeing a battle scene in a movie or on tv. I just sort of act out the scene in my head while running and jumping around the room or hallway I’m in. And not just lightly but I put a lot of energy in it, as much as I have.

These runs last anywhere around five to fifteen minutes, and happen about five times a day, more or less. That’s pretty much all I can do before I’m out of breath and my chest starts hurting. So anyways, I decided to cheak my pulse after one of these runs and found it to be at 130. I had been running for about ten to fifteen minutes and like I said before I put a lot of energy into that run.

I’m fifteen, don’t work out or do any sports though I’m in shape, and I was just wondering, is this normal? If not what is the normal pulse rate? Thanks! (=

Bikram answers:

Either you have a very low heart rate, you recover very quickly or weren’t running very hard. 130 heart beats per minute is considered almost recovered from running since your maximum heart rate should be closer to 200 heart beats per minute. Your pulse normally changes based on how much work your doing or in running how fast. Each person’s heart rate is different and can be changed for the better by exercising or learning stress management.

At 100% physical exertion level I would expect your heat rate to be closer to 200 heart beats for a 15 year old (220 – your age is an indicator)

If your running at 70% exertion for instance a slow 1/2 mile run while talking with a friend your heart rate should be around 145

I would recommend buying a heart rate monitor that way your know exactly your heart rate and you can keep stats for instance watching a battle scene or driving a car. For instance driving a car especially at high speeds your heart rate is quite high even though your not physically exerting yourself. You can also optimize your runs for instance slowing your heart rate down if your going too fast or using it for recovery letting it beep at 120 heart beats for optimize recovery. Good luck!

Bikram answers:

Do you have a reason to take a Pre-Med (an antibiotic before an appointment)? Some examples would be heart conditions, knee/hip replacements or weakend immune system. If so, it’s vitally important to your health to take those antibiotics to avoid complications. When you’re having your teeth cleaned there is a chance of bacteria getting below your gumline and into your blood system. For most people this isn’t an issue but if you have other complications it can be dangerous. If this is your situation i’d contact your doctor immediately.

Is it cold outside where you live? Some people have cold induced asthma. When they exert themselves in the cold, their bronchial tubes constrict. If this is the case, you could get an inhaler from an MD or you can try to avoid exercise in the cold. If it does occur, drink something with caffeine – preferably coffee due to the high caffeine content because caffeine is a bronchial dilator. It will help you breath better.

Bikram answers:

1) Don’t panic.

2) Pace yourself. Try to know ahead of time where the quarter mile (1/4) marks are. You know you have to hit each one at about 2 mins / 30 seconds for you to get under 10 minutes. A typical high school track is about 1/4 mile.

3) Don’t go out too fast. Your chest will definitely hurt and you’ll get frustrated, panic and ultimately force yourself to walk.

4) Also, if getting under 10 minutes is really a high priority for you, and you don’t make it tomorrow, make it a project to be able to run a mile in under 10 minutes. It takes some training / practice, but is largely achievable by anyone.

5) Also, go easy on the food before your run. Don’t be starving but at the same time, don’t try to run a mile after having just eaten lunch or breakfast.

Good luck.
